Subject: Need help with old slot machine and video poker machine | Author: Robert Grover
| [ Next Thread |Previous Thread |Next Message |Previous Message] Date Posted:07:09:11 10/24/05 Mon I need help with the following items: Bally Slot Machine (1982) This slot machine is actually made by Summit Systems and the model number is 150297 Does anyone have a service manual or schematics for this system? Also, I have a question about what I believe is the battery on the Slot Control Board. I think the battery is bad and someone disconnected the negative side of it. Do I need this battery connected for it to work? Bally Draw Poker (1982) Does anyone have a service manual or schematics for this system? The problem I have with this system is no video. Any suggestions would be great since I am new to this and I am trying to learn how to restore these systems. Also, is there any sources I would be able to order replacement parts from? Thanks in advance, Robert [Next Thread |Previous Thread |Next Message |Previous Message] |

[> Subject: Re: Need help with old slot machine and video poker machine | Author: slotnewby [ Edit | View ] | Date Posted:09:15:53 10/24/05 Mon As to your summit slot. Yes, it will work with the battery disconnected. It is a nicad and is only used to hold credits and tilt codes upon next power up. I don't know if you will find schematics for the boards. There is a summit manual but it only has the wiring diagrams of the internal wiring, not the PCB's. The only source I know for summit parts and service is HMS Electronics. He has the manual to sell you and can service your boards if needed. He also has some parts related to summit electronics. If you need Bally Cabinet related parts, Barry Fox at Gallery of Slots in Florida is your man! Barry may also have some info for you on your V2000 video poker - at least, he might have a copy of the manual to sell you. http://www.hms-electronics.com/ www.foxsslot-machine.com 727-844-7568 >I need help with the following items: > >Bally Slot Machine (1982) >This slot machine is actually made by Summit Systems >and the model number is 150297 >Does anyone have a service manual or schematics for >this system? >Also, I have a question about what I believe is the >battery on the Slot Control Board. [> [> [> Subject: Re: Need help with old slot machine and video poker machine | Author: slotnewby [ Edit | View ] | Date Posted:09:43:43 10/24/05 Mon That's a very common problem on a bally slot. There is a device which I think they call a dashpot. It is that plastic tube on the side with the plunger inside. It is used to dampen the return speed of the arm and associated mechanism. Inside, there is a rubber diaphram (piston liner) to make an air seal. It typically turns to black goo and gums up the works. I replaced mine a while back (Barry sells them) but after sitting for a while, I came back to play the slot and the arm locked up - the new replacement had also turned to goo. Oil will desolve rubber but I did not use any lubricant at all on it. I guess the fumes from all the other oiled parts got to it. I mearly pulled the U shapped arm and removed the plunger assembly and it works fine without it - just snaps back a little too fast. Haven't looked into a newer replacement yet. Also, make sure that little wiggle waggle chrome ratchet is moving freely so it can flap back and forth without getting stuck. RB >Thanks!! [> [> Subject: Re: Need help with old slot machine and video poker machine | Author: slotnewby [ Edit | View ] | Date Posted:16:16:21 10/24/05 Mon Hello, Barry. Do you have actual schematics of the individual boards (CPU, driver, sound/link)? The only Summit manual I have seen only documents the wiring layouts which many others sell as 'schematics'. I made the mistake of buying one thinking it would include board schematics - it didn't! In the case of an electronic device such as this, I don't consider a wiring diagram a 'schematic' unless you are talking Electro-mechanical. But then, that's just my opinion. Let me know if you have the 'board' schematics for sale. I am having an intermittant reel tilt problem which I found last time to be intermittant traces on the CPU pcb. And I know the optics are good and aligned properly. Thanks, Reinhard. >seems my name gets around - I have manuals for the >v2000 AND I do have schematics for the SUMMIT. [> Subject: Re: Need help with old slot machine and video poker machine | Author: Robert Grover [ Edit | View ] | Date Posted:05:57:59 10/25/05 Tue I took care of the dashpot as suggested. The diaprham was gummed up, just like you said. The slot arm is still a little tight and will not return on its own. You can pull the arm down and one reel unlocks. You have to still push the arm back to the top position. Also as stated before, only one reel spins, the other two will not spin. There is three electrical switches or plungers behind the reels(Forgive me, I do not know what they are called) and only one will activate which allows the reels to spin. The one that activates will not lock the one spinning reel after it allows it to spin. Also, the slot will not accept coins. The 'Insert Coin' sign stays lit and when you place a coin in, the slot does not register the coin being dropped. I don't know if it is the actual coin switch in the door or a faulty slot controller board. I'm hoping that all it needs is a good cleaning on all of the electrical contacts, which I plan to do this weekend. Any more suggestions? Thanks for helping this newbie!! [> [> Subject: Re: Need help with old slot machine and video poker machine | Author: slotnewby [ Edit | View ] | Date Posted:17:06:45 10/25/05 Tue Sorry, its been a while since I worked on my Summit machine but this is what I remember. First off, there are three 'solenoids' or coils on the back of the reel mech. These are actually what the CPU uses to stop the reels, not spin them. The Pull arm actually cocks up the reel mechs and then finally lets them spin at the last step before being allowed to return back to rest. On the side of the reel mech, you have a couple of crescent shapped gears which mesh together, it is possible that they are not aligned in the proper teeth thereby not allowing the action of the pull arm to move the reel mech to its last possition. I would suggest you CAREFULLY remove the entire reel mech - it slide out towards the front of the machine and work on it on the bench. Be careful, its rather heavy (and probably real greasy). Be even more careful when re-installing the reel mech. There are two Beau plugs at the back (Black connectors) which must align before they mate. If you are careless, and force the connectors when they are not aligned, you will probably break them and they are a real bitch to replace. With mech removed, you should be able to 'wind' up the mech by hand until it gets to the last part of travel and pushes the latch away thereby releasing the the three arms which will kick the reels spinning. At this point, all three reel should be 'free wheeling' and not rubbing on anything - including the optic boards. It is at this point, the CPU would individually energize the solenoids to stop the reels one by one. You can probably reach in and push the plungers in by hand to activate them. Moving on to the game itself. IS there anything displayed on the small 3 digit Red LED display where the winner paid is? There should be some kind of code, usually a tilt code. Even if the machine were powered down with a credit on it, it would power up ready to play off the credit. If it is not accepting money, it should display some kind of tilt code. On my machine, the coin switch will always add credits, even if the coin mech is not enabled (lock out solenoid). If installed, the game would ring the jackpot bell for each coin drop. Ring for 1, Ring Ring for 2nd coin ect. up to max coins. Don't be fooled by lit lights. It is a common failure for the lamp drive SCR's to be shorted keeping a lamp lit at all times. Especially ones that the sockets can short out when changing a bulb. Normally, the insert coins light would be lit, and after inserting the first coin, the coin accepted light would also light. When the reels spin, the coins accepted light goes off for a breif moment with each reel stop. IF you game has a sound board instead of a jackpot bell, then it would make various primative sounds with each action. I'll have to refamiliarize myself with the hopper reset and reset buttons and LED on the power supply tonight when I get home. RB >I took care of the dashpot as suggested. [> Subject: Re: Need help with old slot machine and video poker machine | Author: Robert Grover [ Edit | View ] | Date Posted:09:17:06 11/11/05 Fri Thanks for all of your help. I was able to get the slot machine to work by adjusting the stop bracket and the drive shaft nut back far enough to release all three reels. Now all I have to do is to find the electrical problem in the video poker machine. I was able to get the manual and schematics from Barry Fox. Once again, thank you for your help!!
